Lacock Abbey

Lacock Abby was founded in the early 13th century as a nunnery of the Augustinian order. It was used for location filming for the first two Harry Potter films. It provided the grassy courtyard, hallway and classroom settings at Hogwarts, most notably for Snape’s Potions classroom where Harry is greeted as as our  “new celebrity” and Quirrell’s  DADA classroom when Professor McGonagall asks to borrow Oliver Wood so he can meet his new Seeker. The abby is an easy day trip from London and the adjoining village is often used in filming British period dramas, Jane Austin novels being among the most familiar.
