Welcome to My Site

My fan fiction stories take place in the magical world created by J. K. Rowling in her seven magnificent Harry Potter novels. I ignore other sources, especially the movies, but also Pottermore/Wizarding World, Wikia, and Fan sites. One reason is allowing me freedom to imagine what happened after the Battle of Hogwarts …or how certain events transpired within the novels that Ms Rowling did not cover in detail. Another reason is the huge volume of the additional, unconsolidated information. It is just too hard to keep track of — just research the many sources, often conflicting, in the Harry Potter universe and you will see what I mean. Finally, readers may not be aware of all of the new information and might confuse Ms Rowling’s authoritative additions with my own fanciful ones. If you find I have slipped up in this approach, it was not intentional.

Across all my stories, I have tried to be internally consistent. An event in one story will have occurred in all other stories that take place in the same timeframe — or after. The description or interpretation of the event may vary between stories based on the character’s viewpoint, their level of knowledge or participation, etc. — hopefully like real life. In this way, the stories complement one another, though each stands alone. You don’t need to read them in story chronological order, though you certainly can. I personally think it is best to just read what interests you at the moment.

A few of my stories are quite dark, but I hope not too much. One of my themes is to expose the evil of the dark side and eliminate any trace of glamour, which is often given to evil in commercial media. So now you know one of my biases. You’ll probably pick up some others as well. The header section preceding each story provides a suggested minimum maturity level for story readers, along with the type of content which might be objectionable — much like a movie rating.

My stories are for fans. I emphasize this because I don’t spend time on exposition of J. K. Rowling’s characters, places, magic, or story history. It wastes time for the fan writer and the fan reader. Besides, how could you improve on what Ms Rowling has already perfected? I only use exposition when I create new characters, places, etc.

I have no grand scheme or arc to my stories. The ideas just pop into my head, usually when I’m walking for exercise, and sometimes when I’m trying to fall asleep. My first story idea was actually a dream, complete from beginning to end. I wrote it exactly as I dreamed it. In fact, it was so vivid, I woke up from it and couldn’t stop thinking about it — so I got up and wrote it all down. That was the first time I had ever written a story in my life. I thought it would be my last, but to my surprise, other story ideas just started popping up at random. I only seem to get one idea at a time and don’t get a new one until I have completed the last story — all I can think about is the story I’m working on.

When I originally wrote this introduction, I was working on story number ten. Each time I wondered if there would be another. As of this web site update, I have completed my twenty-eighth story, which includes seven Alternate Universe novellas and one short story.

Also interesting to me as a first-time writer is how a story evolves as I write it — the story seems to pull me in directions I had not thought of when I got the original idea. Fortunately, I have never had writer’s block — the stories just flow from start to finish. I have had to do some rewriting when I discover a serious canon violation. (However, after Cursed Child came out, I have also made significant violations of Time Turner canon in my stories.) I have great respect for Ms Rowling and her editors; being internally consistent is very difficult. You can find very few inconsistencies in the Harry Potter books.

I occasionally, though rarely, quote from J. K. Rowling’s novels. When I do, the text is bolded, and I reference the quote and source in end notes. The exception to this is in my Alternate Universe novellas. It was just too difficult and will be obvious to most fan readers.

I have written the stories for myself, my family and friends. I did submit my first three stories to a popular Harry Potter fan fiction site. However, the process was tedious and extremely drawn out. Plus, the web tools provided were primitive and I decided it wasn’t worth the effort for my subsequent stories. So, if you have found this site, congratulations!

I hope you enjoy reading my stories as much as I have enjoyed writing them. My greatest pleasure is reading them aloud, chapter by chapter, to my wife — my dearest and greatest fan.
